ANNOUNCING THE CHERRY CREEK CHORALE'S 29TH SEASON
2008/2009

MANY HAPPY RETURNS
Our 29th Season is a year of anniversaries and celebrations, thus the title, Many Happy Returns.

October 10 & 11, 2008
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, BETHANY (& ANTONIO!)
Bach: Cantata BWV 80 : "Ein' Feste Burg"
Vivaldi: Gloria

The Cherry Creek Chorale with the Cherry Creek Chorale Chamber Orchestra celebrates the 100th anniversary of our principal performance venue, Bethany Lutheran Church and the 330th anniversary of Vivaldi's birth by presenting two of their best-known choral works.

The Vivaldi Gloria is one of the most popular choral works in history; a combination of exciting choral and orchestral movements interspersed with solo and choral movements of great tenderness and exquisite beauty. Bach's "Ein' Feste Burg" cantata is based on the great Lutheran chorale known as "A Mighty Fortress" in English speaking countries. It is a stirring proclamation of faith by the greatest musical "evangelist" of all time, Johann Sebastian Bach.

December 12 & 13, 2008
"...JUST LIKE THE ONES I USED TO KNOW..."

In keeping with our theme of "Many Happy Returns", the Chorale presents a concert of our holiday favorites, as chosen by our singers and audience. Selections will include the thrilling "Gloria" by John Rutter, and traditional favorites like The Carol of the Bells, I Wonder as I Wander, Leroy Anderson's "Sleigh Ride" (in honor of his 100th birthday), White Christmas and Silent Night.

February 7, 2009
Showcase Concert

Chorale members, their friends, and family step into the spotlight in an entertaining evening of music that will enchant and entertain you (and probably make you laugh until you cry judging by previous showcase concerts.) A delightful evening of fun, food and finance...you have an opportunity to bid on items for the benefit of the Cherry Creek Chorale.

March 6 & 7, 2009
HAYDN: CREATION

To mark the 200th anniversary of Haydn's passing, the Cherry Creek Chorale & the Cherry Creek Chorale Chamber Orchestra present the finest of his late choral compositions, the Creation, a document of enlightenment, religious beliefs and attitudes that is often spoken of as one of the landmarks of Western music. In the great Handelian oratorio tradition, Haydn has fashioned music of timeless beauty and appeal. Be sure to join us for this exquisite amplification of the biblical account of the six days of creation, sung in English using the colorful and understandable translation devised by the choral greats Robert Shaw and Alice Parker.

May 16 & 17, 2009
SYMPHONY OF A THOUSAND

We are pleased to celebrate the 22nd annual Colorado Mahlerfest in Boulder with Mahler's 8th Symphony. It is a tremendous honor to be invited to participate in this prestigious annual event. The thrill is magnified by the once-in-a-lifetime chance to sing Mahler's titanic "Symphony of a Thousand". Definitely an opportunity not to be missed, by us or by our audience! We will perform with the Larimer Chorale of Ft. Collins, The Colorado Children's Chorale, and the Colorado Mahlerfest Orchestra. For more information, go to www.mahlerfest.org
